The GORE-TEX membrane is created as a series of pores. Each pore is 20,000 times smaller than a water drop, yet large enough for vapor to pass through. This creates the ultimate membrane for keeping the inside of your garment dry while still allowing moisture and perspiration to pass through, effectively regulating your body temperature while keeping you comfortable inside your jacket or pants. Developed around your body in motion, our exclusive Thermagraph® technology places separate zones of insulation and breathability strategically throughout your jacket or pants. These zones work together to create an ultra-lightweight, warm, and highly breathable lining that increases versatility of your jacket and pants. Insulation zones are placed where your body needs warmth the most - your vital organs, spine, knees, and seat are surrounded by breathable, moisture wicking mesh to allow for the utmost moisture evaporation and body temperature regulation.

Polartec® Alpha®
Originally invented for the U.S special forces, Polartec® Alpha® active insulation continuously releases excess body heat before it builds to cause saturation and discomfort. Though lightweight and exceptionally durable, its warmth regulation and advanced breathability keep you comfortable in changing conditions.
This patented, adaptive quality is made possible through Alpha’s lofted fibers connected to a solid mesh core. And since Polartec® Alpha® is inherently hydrophobic, it resists all moisture and dries incredibly fast. It is used in the GORE-TEX PRO jacket and bib for the most extreme adventures.
Taped Seams
Taped Seams
The seams where pieces of fabric are brought together are the most likely spot for moisture to intrude into a garment. The seam taping process prevents this by making the seams as waterproof as their surrounding fabric. Seams in 686 garments can be fully taped throughout the garment or taped only at critical areas to further ensure quality workmanship and guarantee waterproofing.

This creates a packable system to keep gear in order when not in use. It’s simple: the jacket is folded, rolled, and then the hood bungy tightens around the bundle to keep it that way. This creates organization and increases room in your pack. At the end of the day, you have a bonus roll to be used as a cushion, padding, or pillow.

A complete bombproof storm rider
Awesome fit with plenty of pockets for organizing all your backcountry gear. This jacket is a must buy for anyone that spends a bunch of time at the resort or in the backcountry. Great job 686 designing this jacket. I look forward to having this in my outdoor arsenal for years to come.
